Garage Door Maintenance in Carson, CA
Most garage door breakdowns start as small wear: a dry roller, a loose bolt, a spring slowly losing tension. Regular maintenance finds those early, while the fix is still small.

A monthly checklist you can do
- Watch and listen while the door runs. Note any jerking, grinding or scraping.
- Look at the springs, cables and rollers for gaps, fraying or cracks. Look only; do not touch the springs or cables.
- Test the safety reverse: lay a piece of wood in the door’s path and close the door. It should reverse on contact.
- Test the photo eyes by passing something through the beam while the door closes.
- Wipe the tracks clean. Tracks do not need grease.
- Check the bottom seal for cracks or gaps.

Lubrication
Hinges, rollers with bearings, and the spring coils run better with a light coat of garage door lubricant every few months. Avoid heavy grease on the tracks; it collects dirt and slows the rollers. Nylon rollers without bearings do not need lubricant on the wheel.
What a professional tune-up covers
- Checking spring tension and door balance.
- Inspecting lift cables, drums and bottom brackets.
- Tightening hinges, track brackets and fasteners.
- Checking rollers and replacing worn ones.
- Adjusting the opener’s force and travel limits and testing the safety reverse.
Once a year is a common schedule for home doors. Doors that cycle many times a day, like commercial doors, need it more often. If the checklist turns up a problem, see garage door repair.
